Homa bay: Governor Gladys Wanga has launched the devolution conference in Homa Bay County, starting with the annual Roan Antelope Marathon at Ruma National Park. Wanga was joined by Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti and Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisely Rotich as they explored various tourist attractions in the area.
According to Kenya News Agency, the leaders visited key sites along the shore of Lake Victoria, including Mbita, a hub for fisheries and blue economy activities. The delegation also toured the Tom Mboya Mausoleum on Rusinga Island, paying tribute to the post-colonial labour minister known for advancing development projects in Homa Bay County.
From Rusinga Island, the dignitaries moved to the pristine beaches of Takawiri Island in Suba West Sub-County. Their tour concluded with a game drive at Ruma National Park, where they observed the rare roan antelope, rhinos, African buffalos, and other wildlife.
Governor Wanga also inaugurated the 254 Hackathon competition at Tom Mboya University, with a focus on boosting digital innovation among the youth. Wanga highlighted the county’s potential for tourism and investment, inviting more Kenyans to explore these opportunities.
She affirmed that all preparations for the devolution conference, organized in partnership with the Council of Governors, were complete. Governor Wanga emphasized the conference’s aim for inclusivity among all participants.
Governor Ndeti praised the scale and organization of the conference, encouraging continued support for Homa Bay’s government initiatives. Governor Rotich emphasized the importance of including young people in governance activities, stating that their involvement would be a priority in this year’s conference.
