The government has assured security to the over 3,000 delegates who will attend the 7th Annual Devolution Conference at Makueni Boys High School in Makueni County on November 23 to 26.
Makueni County Commissioner (CC) Maalim Mohammed gave the assurance while addressing the media after he chaired the County Security Intelligence Committee meeting jointly with the Deputy County Commissioners (DCCs) from the nine sub counties in his Wote Boardroom on Thursday.
“We are adequately prepared to provide enough security in the county especially in these times we have terrorists’ threats in the region. We have beefed up security besides patrols by the police,” said the administrator.
Consequently, Mohammed noted that there will be a multi-agency security team to provide enough security in the county especially in all social places like hotels, private homes that will be used to host the high number of visitors in the county.
“We have enough security to man the 80 hospitality places besides the private homes that will host our visitors during the period of the devolution conference in Makueni County,” said Mohammed.
Further the administrator said that they have established two command centres that will be manned 24/7 where people will call in case they notice suspicious individuals. The number to call is 0770380578 and 0743987177 respectively
During the conference, Mohammed said all the towns in the county will operate in a 24/7 economy maintaining that all participants will observe Ministry of Health protocols.
“We have established these two command centres for the security of our delegates and to spur economic growth through a 24/7 economy in all major towns in Makueni,” he said.
On public transport, the administrator put the matatu owners association on notice to ensure all those who board the vehicles were frisked and their luggage checked before boarding.
He further said that the boda boda riders will be issued with numbered reflectors by the National Transport Safety Authority (NTSA) to enable them ferry passengers to and fro during the conference period.
“We will allow only vetted boda boda with serialised reflector jackets to operate to maintain discipline and reduce traffic congestion in Wote town,” he added.
Concerning covid-19, Mohammed said the delegates are expected to be fully vaccinated according to the communication of the Council of Governors (COG) while adding that those who will visit exhibition zones will have to be vaccinated too.
