Kendubay: Energy and Petroleum CS Opiyo Wandayi has expressed satisfaction with the decision made by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, Central Management Committee (CMC) to begin discussions for coalition arrangement with the United Democratic Alliance party (UDA).
According to Kenya News Agency, Wandayi stated that party members have unanimously decided to support the commencement of coalition talks between ODM and UDA parties, ahead of the 2027 polls. He emphasized the need for these discussions to be expedited so that a pre-election coalition agreement can be established, facilitating the formation of the next government with ease. Wandayi made these remarks during a public baraza held at Kendubay town in Karachuonyo constituency.
The ODM party resolved at a Central Management Committee (CMC) meeting in Kilifi this January 2026 to initiate pre-election coalition talks with President William Ruto’s UDA party. The party leader for ODM, Dr. Oburu Odinga, has been tasked to lead these efforts. Wandayi explained that following the passing of their former leader, Raila Amolo Odinga, the region is now working closely under the leadership of Dr. Oburu and the President.
Wandayi highlighted the region’s long-standing desire for development, which they now see materializing due to the broad-based government established by President Ruto and their late leader, Raila Amolo Odinga. He expressed gratitude towards the President for agreeing to the discussions, emphasizing the importance of reaching an agreement soon so that ODM and UDA members can participate in the next election as a unified entity.
He urged residents to support the ongoing discussions and, once an agreement is reached, to unite in voting for President Ruto. ‘Let us not divide our votes; let’s gather all our votes into one basket,’ Wandayi encouraged.
Area MP, Andrew Adipo Kuome, also voiced support, noting that residents back the re-election of President Ruto. He expressed an expectation to work closely with him, extending beyond 2027, to complete projects initiated in the region.
