CS Wahome Urges Kenyans to Conserve Forests During Mazingira Day Celebration

Murang’a: Lands and Urban Development Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome spearheaded a tree planting and growing exercise at Karumu Primary School in Kandara Constituency, Murang’a County, in celebration of Mazingira Day 2025. The event marked a significant call to action for Kenyans to engage in environmental conservation efforts.

According to Kenya News Agency, this year’s Mazingira Day theme, ‘Turudi Primo,’ encourages citizens to return to their former primary schools to plant tree seedlings. The initiative is part of the government’s broader vision to increase forest cover by planting 15 billion trees by 2030. CS Wahome’s participation underscores the importance of community involvement in achieving national environmental goals.

The government aims to foster a culture of environmental responsibility among its citizens and promote sustainable practices that contribute to the country’s ecological well-being. Through such initiatives, Kenya seeks to enhance its forest cover and mitigate the impacts of climate change while fostering a sense of community and shared responsibility for the environment.
