Kwale: Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports Cabinet Secretary (CS) Salim Mvurya has urged residents of the Coast region to remain united and reject divisive or tribal politics that could derail the region’s development agenda. Speaking in Kwale County during a consultative meeting with grassroots and community leaders, Mvurya said unity was critical for the Coast to fully benefit from national government development programmes.
According to Kenya News Agency, Mvurya emphasized the importance of unity and focus on development, urging residents to avoid early political campaigns that could hinder national progress. He reaffirmed the Coast region’s support for President William Ruto, highlighting the national government’s commitment to delivering transformative development projects across the region.
Mvurya stated, “The Coast region must remain united and focused on development. Divisive politics and early political campaigns will only slow down the progress we are making as a country.” He further added that President William Ruto’s government is dedicated to ensuring that every region, including the Coast, receives its fair share of development, with a focus on improving livelihoods, creating jobs and empowering youth and women.
The Cabinet Secretary highlighted several ongoing and planned national government initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods, including infrastructure development, youth and women empowerment programmes, sports facilities, and creative economy interventions. “We are investing heavily in youth empowerment, sports infrastructure and the creative economy because these sectors have the potential to transform lives and create sustainable income for our people,” Mvurya said.
He noted that the government’s development agenda is inclusive and tailored to unlock economic opportunities for local communities. Mvurya called on residents to uphold peace, unity and cohesion as the country gradually approaches the political season, cautioning that premature political competition and divisions could undermine development gains.
“Let us not allow politics to divide us. There will be time for campaigns, but for now, our priority should be development and peaceful coexistence,” he said. Kwale Governor Fatuma Achani echoed the Cabinet Secretary’s sentiments, saying the county government would continue to work closely with the national government to deliver services to residents.
Governor Achani remarked, “Unity between leaders and the national government is a key to accelerating development in Kwale County and the wider Coast region.” The meeting was attended by Matuga Member of Parliament Kassim Tandaza, Kwale Senator Issa Juma Boy, Kinango MP Gonzi Rai, Members of the County Assembly and community leaders from across Kwale County.
