Murang’a: The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Muranga branch has successfully trained 16 coaches who graduated with CAF D Diplomas following a comprehensive ten-day event at Kimorori Primary School. The training, which took place from August 3 to August 14, 2026, aimed to enhance the skills of coaches actively involved in various competitions within and beyond Murang’a.
According to Kenya News Agency, the training encompassed both theoretical and practical sessions, providing the coaches with essential practical experience. Among the 16 participants, several had previously completed the introductory coaching course offered in December 2025, a prerequisite for the CAF D coaching license. This foundational course is essential for anyone aspiring to advance in the coaching field.
During the graduation ceremony, Mr. Benson Mwangi, FKF Muranga branch chairman, expressed his satisfaction in witnessing the first-ever CAF D diploma class in Murang’a County. He acknowledged the challenges faced but emphasized the importance of organizing such classes to ensure the presence of licensed coaches at the sub-county level. Mr. Mwangi congratulated the coaches for their dedication and encouraged them to apply their new skills to foster grassroots football development and prepare for the CAF C license when available.
Mr. Elias Mwaura, the branch secretary, highlighted the significance of individual effort in applying the training on the field to nurture emerging talents. This initiative aims to prepare coaches for the eventual CAF C level qualification.
Among the graduates was renowned Kenyan football legend Vincent Onyango Ochieng, a three-time Kenyan Premier League champion with Ulinzi Stars FC. Ochieng expressed his enthusiasm for leveraging his newly acquired coaching skills to mentor young players, combining his extensive playing experience with his coaching qualifications. He also expressed gratitude to FKF and its Muranga branch for their commitment to advancing football in the country and urged fellow ex-players to consider coaching to contribute to the sport’s development.
On August 17, the FKF Muranga branch organized an introductory coaching course for new coaches, alongside referee training, at Kimorori Primary School, continuing their efforts to elevate football standards in the region.
