Vihiga: Civil servants from Vihiga County have been asked to register with the Union of Kenya Civil Servants (UKCS) for them to be served better.
According to Kenya News Agency, during a civil servant sensitisation meeting held in the DIDC hall, Union of Kenya Civil Servants’ national second Deputy General Secretary, Julius Kibet Metto, called on all civil servants to register with the union so that they can benefit from it.
Metto urged SHA-accredited hospitals to ensure they dispense medicine to civil servants, as the latter are deducted a lot of money through SHA. “It is the responsibility of all SHA-accredited hospitals to ensure they give civil servants medicine before they ask to be paid by SHA,” said Metto.
He challenged hospitals to establish a memorandum of understanding with pharmacies, enabling civil servants to receive medicine with a note, followed by payment once the hospitals receive money from SHA.
On the topic of salary increments, Metto mentioned that the union has not yet signed the Common Bargaining Agreement (CBA) due to disagreements with the government on the calculation of percentages. He stated that they will soon meet with the President, and if an agreement is reached regarding house and commuter allowances, they will proceed to sign the CBA.
Metto also praised the government’s decision to increase the SHA outpatient limit for officers in job groups A-K and L-N. The SHA outpatient and inpatient limits were raised from Sh70,000 to Sh100,000 for outpatients and from Sh700,000 to Sh1,000,000 for inpatients in Job Group A-K. Officers in Job Group L to N saw an increase in their SHA limits from Sh100,000 to Sh125,000 for outpatients and from Sh1,000,000 to Sh1,250,000 for inpatients.
