Chuka MP Demands Urgent Action on Kamwimbi Killings

Chuka: Chuka/Igambang’ombe MP Patrick Munene has vowed to take the Kamwimbi killings to parliament to demand answers from security agencies over the failure to arrest suspects linked to the attack, despite claims that they are known within the community.

According to Kenya News Agency, speaking during the burial of 68-year-old Deborah Muthoni Nyagah in Kamwimbi, Igambang’ombe Sub-County, the MP questioned the pace of investigations and called for swift action against those responsible. Munene expressed frustration over the lack of arrests, stating, “What are we investigating when those responsible are known? They should be arrested as investigations continue.”

Munene announced plans to seek a parliamentary discussion on the matter next week to demand an explanation from security agencies regarding the absence of arrests. He also raised concerns about whether those allegedly involved in the attack were being shielded from justice, questioning, “Are they above the law?”

The legislator criticized local security operations, describing Kamwimbi Police Station as ineffective in addressing insecurity. He likened the station to “a kiosk,” arguing that officers appeared during public events such as burials but had failed to provide adequate security to residents.

Further, Munene called for the transfer of officers stationed at the police post, citing a loss of confidence among residents in their ability to ensure security. He emphasized that the bereaved family had repeatedly reported threats to security agencies before the attack, but their concerns were not taken seriously until lives were lost.

The MP’s remarks coincide with family members renewing their calls for justice after the killing of Deborah Muthoni Nyagah and David Muchiri during a brutal attack on a homestead in Kamwimbi on May 21. Speaking during the burial, the deceased’s daughter, Vivian Wawira Nyaga, appealed to security agencies to expedite investigations and ensure accountability for those responsible.

Addressing mourners, Chuka South Sub-County Police Commander Cheruiyot stated that the case had been handed over to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for further investigation. He assured residents that detectives were pursuing all leads and that those found culpable would face the full force of the law.

The burial took place two weeks after armed attackers raided a homestead in Kamwimbi, resulting in the deaths of Nyagah, 68, and Muchiri, 32, while leaving two others seriously injured.
