Kericho: An eight-year-old boy from the Kipsitet area in Kericho County drowned on Monday while trying to cross a local stream. The incident has heightened concerns about safety measures in the area, particularly at the crossing point where three people recently died in a similar accident involving a motorbike.
According to Kenya News Agency, Kericho Woman Representative Beatrice Kemei visited the grieving family to offer her condolences. During her visit, she described the bridge as a ‘death trap’ and called for urgent attention to prevent further tragedies. Kemei emphasized the need for leaders to prioritize the safety concerns of their communities and pledged to engage the department of Roads and Infrastructure to address the dangerous conditions of the bridge and others across the county.
Kemei also urged Kericho residents to exercise caution while crossing waterways, particularly as the region continues to experience heavy rains.
