Bomet County Assembly through a special sitting has passed a tourism policy aimed at making the county a leisure industry destination.
The Directorate of Tourism in conjunction with the County Assembly invited the public for participation that was aimed at getting their views.
The tourism policy was at its final stage, and according to Mr Charles Korir the Director of Tourism in the county, the policy would be confirmed in the County Assembly before its assenting by the governor.
“We have invited different stakeholders here today including the members of the public, civic society for participation of this policy, it has gone through all stages and now that it has gone through here, we are almost actualizing the idea of bringing in tourism to our county,” explained Korir.
Korir noted that the county has vast opportunists when it comes to tourism and leisure and they need to be tapped.
“Tourism can be undertaken to become a source of income in this county. Our revenue collection and business opportunities can be created from this industry,” noted Korir.
The policy in place is aimed to give the people of Bomet County and other interested parties a platform to guide sustainable tourism product development.
The director also noted that the policy is aimed at specifying and outlining the roles of the different stakeholders in the tourism industry and its benefits to the citizens of Bomet County.
Tourism has been the main source of income in the country and the policy is aimed at unblocking the potentiality of this venture to the people of Bomet.
Korir noted that the county has a variety of leisure facilities and spur tourism enterprise such as art and craft centres, travel operations, river falls that needs to be exploited.
“We have a lot of opportunities in this enterprise of tourism if only this policy assents our people and the county, in general, will be in a position to earn income from it,” added Korir.
