New Market To Benefit Loitoktok Businessmen

The business community in Loitoktok Sub County are set to benefit from the Sh 30 million market under construction at Ilasiit trading centre in Kajiado County.
The construction which is at an advanced stage, was started in late 2019 and is expected to boost trade along Kenya- Tanzania border. The ongoing exercise include the construction of offices, parking bays, toilets, sheds and perimeter fence.
While inspecting the ongoing project, Governor of Kajiado County Joseph Ole Lenku said the market was one of his pre-election pledges to the residents of Loitoktok to facilitate a conducive environment for doing businesses.
He revealed that about 15,000 residents in the county directly depended on business ventures across the common border hence the need to put up such markets to promote trade.
He said the new market was also a way of creating employment opportunities for the thousands of jobless youth in the county adding that, plans to beef up security was critical in making the dream a reality.
“In order to achieve a conducive environment for business, security measures must be put in place at the borders to ensure there was peace in every region in the county. He said plans were underway to install street lights at the market to facilitate a 24-hour economy.
Loitoktok Deputy County Commissioner, Wesley Koech who accompanied the governor urged the residents to live in peace and work closely with the government to ensure the economy which has been adversely affected by coronavirus was revived.
