Kisasi: Area residents of Kamunono village, Kisasi sub-location in Vihiga County, raised an uproar on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, after a middle-aged man whose death is still a mystery was buried on Monday, May 11, 2026, at night by his family as the residents demanded to know the cause of his death.
According to Kenya News Agency, the chief of the Shamakhokho location, Hesbon Liyenzero, stated that he had previously received information that the deceased had died at home in Kisasi. Upon reaching the homestead with other local authorities, they confirmed the death. Local inquiries revealed speculation among residents that the man might have died from injuries sustained during a beating.
Chief Liyenzero took the initiative to inform the relevant authorities, leading to officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) visiting the homestead. They subsequently transported the body to Jumuia, Friends Hospital Kaimosi in Vihiga County, as requested by the family.
Liyenzero further explained that on Monday, May 11, 2026, he received a call indicating that the family had retrieved the deceased’s body from Jumuia hospital mortuary, Kaimosi, and conducted a night burial. When he arrived in the morning, he found that the secretive burial had caused widespread alarm in the village. Residents demanded the exhumation of the body for a postmortem to ascertain the cause of death.
The situation escalated as the community clashed with those who had conducted the burial, resulting in a standoff between residents and police attempting to restore order. The body has since been relocated to the Vihiga Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary for further investigation, as confirmed by chief Liyenzero.
