Authorities Seize and Destroy Over 1,000 Liters of Illicit Brew in Embu

Embu: Police in Embu West Sub-County have seized and destroyed 1,340 liters of illicit brew during a multi-agency operation targeting illegal alcohol production sites in Kawanjara Sub-Location in Runyenjes Constituency. The operation was mounted following a tip-off from members of the public who alerted authorities over the existence of an illegal brewing location that was being conducted in a nearby thicket.

According to Kenya News Agency, Deputy County Commissioner Mercy Gatobu stated that they immediately mounted a raid of the area, leading to the seizure of the illicit liquor commonly known as ‘Macore.’ She reported no arrests were made during the raid as the suspects fled into a thicket upon noticing the arrival of the security officers. However, a search for the culprits has already been initiated with the intention of charging them in court.

Additionally, authorities recovered a motorcycle at the scene believed to have been used for transporting or distributing the liquor. Gatobu issued a warning to individuals involved in the manufacture and sale of illicit alcohol, urging them to cease their activities before facing legal consequences. She emphasized that illegal alcohol dealers will not be allowed to operate, and those caught will face arrest and prosecution.

NACADA County Coordinator, Agnes Kanyingi, cautioned residents against consuming illicit brews due to the potential presence of dangerous chemicals posing health risks. Kanyingi encouraged the public to continue providing information to authorities about illegal alcohol production, stressing the importance of public cooperation in dismantling the trade.
