Kisii: The National Construction Authority (NCA) has accredited hundreds of young artisans across various trades, enabling them to be considered for public works engagements. The move will allow artisans to participate in several government projects, including affordable housing initiatives.

According to Kenya News Agency, Ms. Dorice Aburi, Kisii Woman Rep, presided over the accreditation ceremony at Nduru High School, South Mugirango. The event aimed to alleviate the challenges faced by artisans who previously failed to prequalify for jobs. Ms. Aburi noted that despite acquiring the necessary skills, many artisans were unable to secure government jobs due to a lack of NCA certification.

Ms. Aburi urged the government to prioritize employment for the newly accredited artisans whenever Affordable Housing projects are undertaken in their regions. She also suggested that artisan courses should include essential subjects relevant to their daily activities to enhance their societal relevance.

Milgor Nancy, an assistant in training and capacity building at NCA, commended the artisans for their overwhelming turnout, attributing it to the mobilization efforts by the county women rep. The accreditation process succeeded through collaboration with stakeholders and the active participation of site supervisors and artisans.

Juveniles Oirere, a tailor, and Nicholas Anyona, an electrician, shared their experiences and the challenges they faced in obtaining their accreditation certificates. The group collectively condemned violent protests by youths demanding rights, advocating instead for peaceful means and focusing on gaining accreditation for self-improvement.
