Kikuyu:Alliance Girls High School in Kiambu’s Kikuyu Sub-county will soon have a modern ICT center, a project initiated through a partnership between the school’s Board of Management and the M-PESA Foundation, to support students pursuing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) pathways.
According to Kenya News Agency, Kikuyu Ward MCA James Kamau highlighted the challenges posed by inadequate ICT facilities in implementing Competency-Based Education (CBE). He emphasized the importance of technology in supporting the new education system, especially for the many students at Alliance Girls pursuing STEM pathways.
Kamau addressed these issues on September 17, during a stakeholders’ meeting at the school. The meeting, aimed at discussing the project’s potential impact and necessary implementation measures, included NEMA-accredited consultants, the school’s Board of Management, Ministry of Education representatives, the Assistant County Commissioner for Kikuyu, and the Kikuyu Constituency Office Manager.
In addition to developing modern learning facilities, Kamau stressed the need for enhanced security around the school. He proposed installing street lighting from the junction to the school gate to improve safety for students, staff, and the community.
This initiative builds on earlier efforts to improve ICT access at Alliance Girls. In 2016, the Kenya Education Network (KENET) partnered with the school to provide internet connectivity, facilitating online research and virtual lessons in subjects like science and mathematics.
The ICT lab construction is part of the Kenya Secondary Education and Equity Quality Improvement Program (SEEQIP), launched in September 2025. This program aims to address disparities in access to STEM facilities, promote equity, and ensure senior schools comply with mandatory STEM subject offerings.
