Siaya:Youth in Alego-Usonga Constituency are set to benefit from improved access to digital skills, employment opportunities, and government services with the establishment of a new Jitume Digital Hub in Siaya County.
According to Kenya News Agency, the groundbreaking ceremony took place on Thursday at the Kenya News Agency grounds in Siaya, presided over by Kisumu Central Member of Parliament Joshua Oron on behalf of Alego-Usonga MP Samuel Atandi. The facility aims to equip young people with digital skills and enhance their employment prospects both locally and internationally.
The digital hub will also facilitate access to government-related digital services, such as obtaining registration certificates and national identification cards. This initiative is part of a broader national program to establish 4,450 digital hubs across constituencies under the Ministry of ICT and the Digital Economy.
Engineer Antony Sang’, from the Technopolis Development Authority, noted that the project has garnered support from Parliament, the National Government Constituencies Development Fund, and the Communications Authority of Kenya. He encouraged Siaya youth to seize the opportunity to gain digital skills crucial for future business endeavors.
The project’s contractor, Kamadi Jumba, stated that the digital hub is projected to cost approximately Sh32 million, with completion expected by March 2027. Jumba assured that local youth would be involved in the construction process, providing them with valuable work experience.
Once operational, the Jitume Digital Hub is anticipated to boost employment and self-employment opportunities, enhance educational access and global knowledge, support innovation and business growth, and promote digital inclusion for Alego-Usonga residents.
