Ahero: Police in Nyando Sub-County, Kisumu County, are investigating the death of a police officer whose body was found hanging inside his house at the Ahero Police Lines on Wednesday morning, in suspected suicide. The deceased is a middle-aged police constable, attached to Ahero Police Station.

According to Kenya News Agency, the incident is being treated as suspected suicide pending completion of investigations. An incident report indicates that preliminary information revealed that the officer had previously complained to colleagues about experiencing stress linked to unresolved domestic issues.

Police said the body was discovered at around 11.00 a.m. on Wednesday after a colleague became concerned when the officer failed to respond to phone calls made earlier in the morning. ‘After several unanswered calls, the colleague went to his house to check on him. He found the door locked from inside. On peeping through the window, he saw the officer hanging from the roof using a rope,’ the report stated.

The colleague raised an alarm, prompting officers to visit the scene. Investigators processed the scene as part of ongoing inquiries. Police noted that no suicide note was recovered from the house.

The body was later removed from the scene and transferred to Ahero County Hospital Mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of his death.
