Nyeri:More than 300 National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) from Nyeri are participating in a data management training program aimed at improving government planning efforts for local administrators. The three-day workshop, which commenced on Tuesday at the White Rhino Hotel, is organized by the State Department for Economic Planning in partnership with the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS).
According to Kenya News Agency, the training is targeting administrators from various ranks, including assistant chiefs, chiefs, assistant County Commissioners, and Deputy County Commissioners, across 25 counties. This initiative, called ‘Training on Grassroots Data Management for Evidence-Based Planning,’ has already covered eleven counties in its first phase.
Nyeri Deputy County Commissioner Maina Ngunyi highlighted the importance of the training in equipping administrators with the necessary expertise for accurate data collection from communities, which is crucial for government planning. He emphasized that accurate data collection is essential for effective government planning and acknowledged the need for administrators to gather precise data to aid in national development efforts.
Ngunyi commended the State Department of Planning’s decision to enhance administrators’ data management skills, noting its significance in the government€š¬…¡¬‚¬¦¡¬‚¬Å¡¬¦¡¬‚¬Å¡¬€¦¡¬¦¡¬€š¬…¡¬‚¬¦¡¬‚¬Å¡¬¦¡¬‚¬Å¡¬€¦¡¬¦¾¢s daily operations. He stressed that NGAO officers play a vital role in linking the government with local communities, underscoring their indispensable contribution to national planning.
Alphonse Obonyo, a facilitator for the training, stated that the skills acquired during the workshops would help establish a reliable data bank that meets global standards. Obonyo, affiliated with World Governance, explained that the training aims to educate administrators on managing and safeguarding data from local to national levels, ensuring its accuracy and utility for future planning.
The workshop covers various topics, including national planning architecture, legal frameworks, community data systems, data quality assurance, and digital data systems, to enhance the data management capabilities of the officers.
