Embu: The 44th edition of the Kenya Communications Sports Organization (KECOSO) Games kicked off in Embu on Saturday in a ceremony presided over by Governor Cecily Mbarire at Embu Moi Stadium.
According to Kenya News Agency, ten teams from key state organizations are participating in this year’s games. They include the Postal Corporation of Kenya (PCK), Kenya Airports Authority (KAA), Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA), Communications Authority of Kenya (CA), and Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC). Other participants are the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), Kenya Maritime Authority (KMA), Media Council of Kenya (MCK), Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), and Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB).
The week-long competition will feature a range of sports disciplines, including athletics, football, volleyball, basketball, netball, and indoor games such as darts, table tennis, pool, scrabble, chess, and snooker.
KECOSO Governing Council Chair Antony Njagi highlighted the games’ role in promoting unity, talent development, and networking across sectors during the opening ceremony. He emphasized that the games bring together participants from all 47 counties, reinforcing their importance in fostering national cohesion and nurturing sports talent while raising public service awareness at the grassroots level.
Njagi also noted that since their inception in 1978, the KECOSO Games have become one of Kenya’s largest inter-parastatal sporting events, drawing thousands of participants annually. He commended the milestone achievement of registering KECOSO as a sports federation under the Sports Act 2013.
Governor Mbarire assured athletes of adequate security during their stay in Embu and expressed gratitude to the Council for allowing the county to host this year’s games.
