Tana River is set to benefit from the Horn of Africa Gateway Development Project (HoAGDP) funded by the Word Bank after Governor Major (Rtd) Dhadho Godhana successfully negotiated for the rehabilitation of the Hola municipality water supply system.
HoAGDP aims to enhance connectivity between Kenya, Somalia, and Ethiopia and improve the movement of people and goods, digital connectivity, and access to social services to communities at designated locations along the targeted sections of the Isiolo-Mandera Regional Road Corridor.
The Governor hosted a delegation from the Ministry of Transport, Kenya National Highway Authority (KENHA), and the Frontier Counties Development Council (FCDC) at his official residence in Hola.
The Governor said the discussions centered on road and water projects which the county government has prioritized to be funded by World Bank that will have a great impact on the residents.
“We have recommended among other projects modernization of the Hola water station that will serve Hola Municipality and will be extended to village clusters. We have also highlighted the road that will link Hola to Nairobi and the airstrip in Daba,” said Governor Major (Rtd) Godhana.
Judith Kerich, Deputy Coordinator of World Bank-funded projects said they are on a scoping mission in Tana and that once feasibility studies are done, they would ascertain the correct financing needed for the rehabilitation of the Hola Municipality water supply.
“This is an initiative under the Horn of Africa Gateway Development Project under the component of social infrastructure. We are here today to discuss the priorities of the county to see where we can partner and collaborate in addressing the challenges being faced by Tana,” said Kerich adding that they would collaborate with the Tana River County Government to implement water projects.
Mohamed Guleid CEO of FCDC said they would partner with Tana River County to actualize its development project as captured in the County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP).
The team visited the eco-village cluster project in Handampia, the Hola Water Supply Station, and the new county offices which are being constructed in Dayatte.
