Gambogi: Women from various backgrounds are being encouraged to make the most of government funding programs designed to empower them and enhance their socio-economic status in society. Speaking at a meeting with pastors’ wives, female pastors, and women leaders of Jesus Celebration Centre (JCC) at a hotel in Gambogi, Bishop Mark Kegohi emphasized the importance of women stepping into leadership roles and utilizing available government funds.
According to Kenya News Agency, Bishop Kegohi highlighted that for women to benefit from the government funds, they should develop income-generating projects in key sectors such as agriculture and aquaculture or establish profitable businesses. These ventures would provide reliable financial streams to sustain their families and contribute positively to society.
Bishop Kegohi also encouraged Christian women to not only focus on family and religious duties but to seek economic empowerment by accessing government funds such as the Women Enterprise Fund, Youth Enterprise Development Fund, and UWEZO fund. These funds offer capital for starting new businesses or expanding existing ones, providing a pathway to financial independence.
He further mentioned that women could take advantage of funding opportunities available at both national and county levels to improve their living standards. In particular, he urged widows in the church to form groups and register with the Department of Social Services to access these funds.
The bishop praised the women for establishing Smart Mums SACCO two years ago, which offers loans to economically empower women, helping them achieve financial freedom. He also announced plans to launch the Smart Mums Economic Empowerment forum, which will collaborate with the SACCO to elevate women’s economic standards.
