Karumandi: The founder of Karumandi women football clubs, Dominic Mugo, has highlighted the need for increased support for female soccer, urging Kenyans to embrace the sport. Mugo emphasized the importance of nurturing talent among women and announced plans to include various talent-nurturing programs at Karumandi, Kirinyaga East sub-county.

According to Kenya News Agency, Mugo explained that besides football, the initiative will incorporate economic empowerment activities such as poultry and pig farming to create employment opportunities for members and support local businesses. During the launch of the Karumandi clubs’ tournament, Mugo expressed excitement about using football to travel across the country, learn new ideas, and positively impact lives.

He highlighted the role of football and other talent-nurturing activities in promoting national unity and cultural exchange. Mugo called on local leaders and well-wishers to support local tournaments to minimize societal issues like alcohol and drug abuse. He noted that the tournament could nurture a sober community and promote healthy living through physical activity.

Natalia Gichobi, a player from Karumandi Young FC, pointed out that the lack of support for women’s football is a significant challenge. Gichobi suggested that with proper backing, women’s football could become an income-generating activity in the area and beyond. She urged Kenya to emulate developed countries in supporting female soccer.
