Sigor: President William Samoei Ruto’s personal aide, Farouk Kibet, has initiated an elaborate programme to empower marginalised women in West Pokot in fulfilment of Kenya Kwanza administration pre-election pledges. In a colourful ceremony at Sigor Centre in Pokot Central Sub-County, local women stand to benefit from Sh7m donated by local leaders drawn from the Kenya Kwanza administration.
According to Kenya News Agency, the event brought together a host of influential county and national leaders, all united in the push for grassroots women empowerment and greater inclusion in governance and development. The leaders, during the event led by Farouk Kibet, included Sigor Member of Parliament, Peter Lochakapong, Majority Leader in the National Assembly, Kimani Ichung’wah, West Pokot Governor, Simon Kachapin, West Pokot County Women Representative, Rael Kasiwai, Taiti Member of Parliament, William Kamket, Nandi County Women Representative, Cynthia Muge, Trans Nzoia County Women Representative, Lilian Siyoi, Kibwezi West Member of Parliament, Eckomas Mutuse, Taveta Member of Parliament, John Bwire, and former West Pokot Governor, Prof John Lonyangapuo.
The leaders rallied the community to actively venture into economic and social development initiatives through the available government programs intended to benefit Kenyans. They underscored the role of women as key pillars of family and societal development and encouraged them to leverage the Kenya Kwanza bottom-up development opportunities such as Hustle Fund and other affirmative action initiatives.
The leaders criticized ongoing opposition-led demonstrations, accusing their organizers of attempting to derail the Kenya Kwanza’s development efforts in the country. They called for political stability and cooperation, emphasizing the need to focus on transformative programs rather than political unrest.
The local community underscored the event as a significant step in Kenya Kwanza’s broader commitment to inclusive development, particularly in historically underserved regions like theirs.
