Kakamega: Kakamega County Women representative, Elsie Muhanda, has donated car washing machines to boda boda groups in the area in efforts to expand and diversify their sources of income. Muhanda handed over the equipment to the Kambiri Boda Boda Group and the Vihiga Orange Boda Boda Group through the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF).
According to Kenya News Agency, Muhanda emphasized the vital role that boda boda riders play in local transport and community development. She noted that providing modern car washing machines would bolster their businesses and promote financial independence. The car washing equipment is expected to create steady income streams, reduce unemployment among young people, and support families reliant on the boda boda sector.
Elsie Muhanda expressed that empowerment is most effective when it directly reaches people and provides them with tools for self-upliftment. The riders expressed gratitude to the women representative, acknowledging that the machines would enhance their earning potential and attract more customers.
Muhanda reaffirmed her commitment to supporting youth and women through NGAAF programmes, indicating her office’s intention to continue launching income-generating initiatives countywide. She encouraged young people to form organized groups and leverage empowerment programmes aimed at improving their economic stability and wellbeing.
The event signified another milestone in Muhanda’s ongoing efforts to foster entrepreneurship and alleviate poverty at the grassroots level in Kakamega County.
