Wajir: Wajir County Governor’s wife, Mrs. Rukia Abdinasir, has called on stakeholders to strengthen disability inclusion across all sectors of development. Speaking at the International Day of Persons with Disabilities commemoration at the Wajir Museum, Ms. Abdinasir emphasized the county’s commitment to ensuring that Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) have access to equal opportunities during planning, budgeting, and service delivery.

According to Kenya News Agency, Abdinasir, who represented Governor Ahmed Abdullahi, noted that the county had made progress in mainstreaming disability issues but urged actors to prioritize practical measures that improve daily lives. She reaffirmed her personal commitment and that of the County Government to ensure that no person with a disability is left behind in the journey toward social and economic transformation.

During the event, the Walkabout Foundation, in partnership with the County Government, distributed 100 wheelchairs to residents with mobility challenges. The Governor’s wife expressed gratitude to the organization and other development partners for supporting rehabilitation efforts. She commended the efforts of humanitarian agencies, civil society groups, organizations of persons with disabilities, and community leaders in advancing inclusion within the county.

County Disability Services Director Mohamed Abdi highlighted his department’s efforts to ensure accurate data on PWDs across all wards. He stated that this year’s theme guides the building of inclusive systems that promote dignity and participation, with reliable data being the starting point for planning effective programs.

The event was attended by parents, teachers, civil society groups, and health workers, all united in highlighting ongoing efforts to enhance accessibility and promote equal opportunities for PWDs.
