Voters Have Until 2nd June To Verify Their Details-IEBC

The Independent, Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) in Tharaka- Nithi County is urging eligible voters to verify their registration details, ahead of the August polls.
With the deadline slated for 2nd June, the verification process is on-going in different constituencies to enable eligible voters to confirm their details.
Speaking to KNA in his office, the County Elections Manager (CEM), Mohammed Rakah, said that voters are required to verify their National Identity (ID) number, names and their registered polling station.
“You should check that your names and registered polling station are correct before we close the exercise, “he said
The CEM explained that there are different ways to verify the details including text message or accessing the IEBC website portal.
“You can use SMS to verify your details through sending your ID/passport number to 70000 or by accessing the Commissions website portal,” said the Manager
While at it, the Elections Manager disclosed that they have conducted meetings with different aspirants to enlighten them on the electoral code of conduct in an effort to promote peaceful elections.
He further revealed that the candidates will be required to provide documents for registration to prove they meet the requirements as from 29th May 2022, to be included in the ballot.
He stated that there are mandatory requirements for election candidates vying for various elective posts.
“For example, a governor is required to have clearance from Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), a degree certified in accordance with section 22 of the Elections Act, 2011 and enough supporters from his/her party among other things,” he explained
He urged youths to maintain peace during this period and allow aspirants to clearly outline their manifesto without intimidation.
