Vihiga TVETs Hold Ball Games Tournament

The ball games tournament for the Technical and Vocational Education and Training centres in Vihiga County kicked-off on Thursday at Kaimosi Friends University College grounds.
Speaking while opening the two-day event, Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo pledged to improve sports’ infrastructure in the TVETs.
He stated that the County Ministry of Sports would allocate some funds in the fiscal year 2022-2023 for upgrading sporting facilities in these institutions.
Dr. Ottichilo said his administration has prioritized the TVETs through the purchase of tools and equipment as well as employing 135 instructors to lower trainer-trainee ratio.
“The county focus on the technical and vocational training has led to an increase in the enrolment from 2,700 in 2018 to 5,700 trainees in 2022,” he disclosed.
He promised that his government would assist the graduates to secure internship opportunities within and in other agencies so that they can put acquired skills to application.
The sporting activities, which resumed after a two-year break occasioned by the Covid-19, included volleyball, handball, football and netball.
The tourney ends today where winners in various categories will be awarded trophies.
