Vihiga County’s Economic Transformation Driven by Government Infrastructure Projects

Vihiga county: Vihiga County is experiencing economic transformation due to government projects aimed at improving infrastructure and livelihoods in line with the BETA economic blueprint. From affordable housing to modern markets and hostels, these projects have opened up new opportunities for many residents.

According to Kenya News Agency, one project with significant impact is the construction of the affordable housing project phase one in Vihiga. This development has created a ripple effect in the community, providing employment opportunities for locals like Silas Ajega, whose food kiosk has thrived due to the influx of employees working on the project. This boost has led to more employment, stimulating the local economy.

Similarly, the construction of the Luanda modern market has revitalized the town, sparking business activities. Residents like Mama Debra Alwanje are optimistic about the market’s potential to elevate Luanda’s status as a municipality and attract more commerce.

For young people like Aggrey Busolo, these projects have been transformative, allowing them to plan for a brighter future and secure stable employment. Moreover, the projects have paved the way for long-term skills development and career growth.

Jessica Andeyo, a Bondo Technical and Training Institute graduate with a Diploma in Civil Engineering, is an intern at the Luanda modern market construction site. She views the project as a valuable opportunity to acquire technical skills that will empower other women in the community to pursue similar paths.

Upon completion, these projects will mark a milestone for Vihiga, elevating the county to a high level of economic transformation and moving the nation closer to realizing vision 2030. These projects demonstrate the power of infrastructure development in driving economic growth and improving quality of life.
