Vihiga: The Kenya County Government Workers Union (KCGWU) Vihiga Chapter conducted its elections at Mukuli Primary School in Vihiga Sub County, where Hebert Kenogo emerged as the new Chairperson.

According to Kenya News Agency, elections commissioner Moses Muyundi confirmed that several key positions, including Branch Secretary, Assistant Branch Secretary, Branch Treasurer, Assistant Branch Treasurer, Women Representative, and Youth Leader, were filled without opposition, eliminating the need for elections for these roles. Victor Mindalimu, Abdallah Chanzu, Lucy Maliazo, Pamela Were, Evans Mokua, and David Olindo were among those elected unopposed to these positions.

The election for the Chairperson and Vice Chairperson positions saw Hebert Kenogo securing the Chairperson seat with 75 votes. His opponent, the outgoing Chairperson Moses Ombaso, received 20 votes. Muyundi reported that Ombaso reacted to his anticipated loss by disrupting the election process, accusing him of bringing in individuals who damaged voting materials.

In his acceptance speech, Kenogo committed to ensuring equitable and fair practices within the union, criticizing the previous administration for its alleged biases and unfair practices, which he claimed led to the disruptions during the elections.

Moses Ombaso, the outgoing Chairperson, accused election commissioners, specifically Moses Muyundi, of bias, and called for intervention by the General Secretary of the County Government Workers Union to consider repeat elections. He expressed concerns about the conduct of the elections, alleging irregularities, including the late arrival of ballot papers and the involvement of non-union members in the voting process.
