Vihiga, AMREF Collaborate To Improve Community Healthcare Systems

The African Medical and Research Foundation (AMREF) has struck a collaborative deal with the Vihiga County Government aimed at boosting community health care systems.

The AMREF Health Africa Country Director, Dr. Meshack Ndirangu, said they would be undertaking community anti-tuberculosis (TB) activities, running malaria combating programmes, and developing oxygen infrastructure.

Dr. Ndirangu stated that they were going to carry out mass drug administration for deworming, which is targeting over one million school-going children, offer training to Community Health Promoters (CHPs) and do research with a focus on neglected tropical diseases.

On his part, Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo said the county already has data collected through the Geo-Spatial Information System (GIS) that will guide the implementation of the programmes.

He emphasised the need for embracing data-driven decision-making for the realisation of efficiency and effectiveness in the execution of services and the implementation of development projects.
