Nairobi: The National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) is set to invest more than five million shillings in constructing a digital hub in Ugunja, as announced by the area CDF chairman, Benard Omollo Were.

According to Kenya News Agency, Mr. Were emphasized the committee’s commitment to adhering to the guidelines from the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, which mandate the establishment of digital hubs in all wards nationwide. During the event marking the disbursement of CDF bursaries, Mr. Were revealed plans to ensure that all three wards in the Ugunja constituency will benefit from these hubs.

He stated, “In our plans, we will have subsequent hubs in two other wards, that is, Sidindi and Sigomere,” reinforcing the initiative’s alignment with ministerial guidelines. Beyond construction, the CDF is also tasked with equipping the digital hubs, a move Mr. Were believes will address youth unemployment by providing access to online opportunities.

In addition to the digital hub project, Mr. Were highlighted the CDF’s educational contributions, noting that over 43 million shillings have been disbursed to support students from the constituency. Plans are also in place to finance three new school buses within the current financial year, alongside an allocation of three million shillings dedicated to youth skills development.

Moses Konje, principal of the Kenya Medical Training College, Ugunja campus, expressed gratitude towards the CDF’s efforts in supporting students in need. He acknowledged the fund’s role in alleviating financial burdens by subsidizing educational costs for many KMTC students. At the event, the CDF distributed a total of 13,269,000 shillings, benefiting 1,742 secondary school students.
