Uasin Gishu Plans To Employ ECDE Teachers Permanently

The County Government of Uasin Gishu is working on modalities to employ 180 ECDE teachers who have been on contract since the start of devolution.
Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Chelilim Bii said some of the teachers have been on undefined contracts for the last ten years and have been working under uncertainty of their job security every day.
These teachers have undergone untold suffering for far too long, they have been looked down and frowned upon, despite playing a vital role in nurturing the basis of our children’s education, said Bii while meeting with representatives of the ECDE teachers.
“I will be meeting with all the ECDE teachers on Friday to work out on the modalities of how their salaries will be paid and start the process of their being employed permanently by the county government,” said the Governor.
He added that it was sad that whenever you meet an ECDE teacher they appeared disillusioned because the community consider them lowly people because of the work they do.
“What most people fail to understand is that some of the ECDE teachers are highly trained, some with master level of education, we shall have to sit with all of them so that we know how payment for graduates, diploma and certificate holders will be done, commensurate with their levels of education,” said Bii.
