Trans Nzoia Residents Encouraged to Lead Fight Against Drug Abuse

Trans nzoia: Trans Nzoia residents have been challenged to take a front seat in the fight against drug and substance abuse, particularly among the youth. Speaking at St. Mark’s High School in Cherangany Sub County during the Mashujaa Day Celebrations, Trans Nzoia County Commissioner Gideon Oyagi emphasized the importance of an all-inclusive approach to effectively combat the issue, urging the public to play a central role in these efforts.

According to Kenya News Agency, Oyagi instructed National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) and security teams to leave no stone unturned in addressing the problem. He called for the arrest of those responsible for supplying illegal drugs, responding to public complaints about the rising cases of substance abuse among the youth, including school-going children in the region.

Oyagi further reminded NGAO officers in Trans Nzoia of their mandate to eradicate drug and substance abuse, particularly illicit drugs and brews, stressing that there are no shortcuts in fulfilling this duty. He also advised maize farmers, urging them not to sell their produce at low prices out of desperation. He encouraged patience as the government plans to buy the produce at better prices, warning farmers not to fall into the traps of opportunistic brokers.

Additionally, Oyagi commended the residents and leaders of Trans Nzoia for maintaining peace in the cosmopolitan region and urged them to contribute to national development in line with the aspirations of the founding fathers. He also mourned the loss of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, describing him as an icon who always stood for change and aspired for the best for the nation.

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya echoed Oyagi’s sentiments, highlighting Raila Odinga’s legacy as more than just a name but a movement whose story will endure. He encouraged people to remember that heroism is not limited to the battlefield but is also about dedicated service delivery, urging everyone to emulate Odinga’s example.

The event was attended by Trans Nzoia Deputy Governor Philomena Kapkory, executive committee members, and heads of departments from both the national and county governments.
