Three people in Garissa County have been killed in a suspected Al-Shabaab attack after the vehicle they were travelling in ran over an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Hailey, Bura East sub county.
The deceased were leading a convoy of two other vehicles who escaped the incident unhurt.
While confirming the incident, Garissa county commissioner Boaz Cherutich who was flagged by his security committee members said that they had deployed a team of police officers to pursue the suspects and bring them to book.
“We want to appeal to the local people around that area to be calm as we pursue the criminals. The government will continue with the sustained operation to flush them out,” Cherutich said.
“We also want to assure the public that we will arrest them and bring the calm back,” he added.
Cherutich however noted that more details of the incident will be available when the families of the victims are notified.
