Taking Regional Priorities to UNGA and Enhancing Partnerships Towards Achieving Shared Strategic Priorities.

September 24, 2022, (NEW YORK, U.S.A): The Inter-governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) mission to the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly that was headed by the Executive Secretary concludes.
On the sidelines of the UNGA, the IGAD delegation led by the Executive Secretary, Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, met with regional leaders and strategic partners.
Among the leaders Dr. Workneh met with were the Presidents of the Republic of Kenya, H.E. William Samoei Ruto, and President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia, where they discussed and agreed to coordinate on issues of climate adaptation, response to the drought situation, and peace and security.
The Executive Secretary met with the leadership and representatives of strategic partners; the U.S. Department of State, UNHCR, USAID, and AFDB, on the sidelines of UNGA, where they agreed on a joint commitment to stronger collaboration to overcome obstacles and challenges to the advancement of states and societies in the IGAD region.
In a team briefing on the last day of the IGAD-UNGA mission, Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu commended the IGAD delegation for the successful meetings with regional leaders and strategic partners that advanced the step to find and focus on the shared regional concerns.
