A 17-year-old student who hails from Mirunda village within Mbita constituency in Homa Bay County is appealing for support from well-wishers in paying her school fees.
Jane Akoth Ouma, a form three student at Ogongo Secondary school faces financial constraints just months before her final year in secondary school.
Being the third-born in a family of five children and a partial orphan after her father’s death years ago, Akoth has since then been under the care of her cousin Lawrence Ouma due to her mother’s inability to fend for her and her siblings.
Speaking to KNA in Homa Bay town, Ouma said that he has been struggling to provide for Akoth and his three children through menial income he gets from his job of repairing broken televisions within their village.
“I have been providing for Akoth and my three children since the passing of her father but my income is not enough to help clear her school fees arrears of 52,000 shillings dating back to the year 2021,” explained Ouma.
He added that prior to the learner being sent out of school, he had only managed to pay 2000 shillings in a bid to slowly offset the arrears.
Akoth stated how eager she was to resume her studies but the hope of doing so was slowly slipping away due to financial issues.
“I would very much love to resume my studies as I only have one year left before I can join a higher education institute and achieve my dream of becoming a doctor. I am appealing to well-wishers to help me achieve my dreams,” appealed Akoth.
