Stop Politicizing Fuel Issue, CS Ruku Asks Opposition

Mbooni west: Public Service, Human Capital and Special Programmes Cabinet Secretary (CS), Geoffrey Ruku, has called upon the opposition to stop politicizing the fuel issue, saying the government was addressing the problem progressively as it develops.

According to Kenya News Agency, Ruku reminded the opposition that the government will not allow Kenyans to suffer economic hardship and is mitigating the fuel issue, to ensure the prices are relatively stabilized so as not to adversely affect the common mwananchi. He stated, “The Government has already released Sh6.5 billion to stabilize the fuel prices and in the long-run reduce the burden on the cost of living on wananchi,” during an address to residents of Mbooni West Sub-county at Kikima Secondary School.

The CS urged the residents to ignore misinformation being peddled by some individuals, stating that the crisis was due to global prices affected by conflicts beyond Kenya, involving Iran, Israel, and the United States of America. On development, Ruku assured that the government was committed to the equitable distribution of national resources and services across the country, irrespective of political affiliation.

He reminded the people of Makueni about ongoing infrastructure projects, including the tarmacking of Mukatini-Kikima-Kyambalasi (20km), Kali-Kikima-Ngoluni (57km), and Ngoluni-Itangini (36km) roads. Additionally, the government is undertaking construction projects such as Affordable Housing and markets in several towns, including Kikima, Wote, and Makindu, alongside the construction of hostels at the Kenya Medical Training Colleges in Makindu and Makueni Campus.

Ruku also revealed plans to introduce a technology-driven recruitment system in the public service and other government agencies to minimize human interaction, aiming to enhance transparency and meritocracy. “This move is aimed at enhancing transparency and ensure a fair, merit-based recruitment process across government. When an applicant applies, the technology will be used to assess and ensure the right person who is qualified in terms of education qualification, gets the job without favoritism from anybody,” Ruku explained.

During the event, Ruku distributed 900 bags of 50 kgs rice and 780 bags of 50 kgs beans to the most needy households in Mbooni West Sub-county. The CS was accompanied by the Kibwezi West Constituency Member of Parliament (MP), Mwengi Mutusr, Former Mbooni MP Kisoi Munyao, Makueni County Commissioner Khalif Abdullahi, Mbooni West Sub-county Deputy County Commissioner Stanlaus Apwoka, among other local leaders.
