State Beefs Up Security In Kisumu

Kisumu Central Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Hussein Alanson Hussein has assured residents in the region that their security was guaranteed during December festivities.
Hussein, who led the lakeside County residents in the 59th Jamhuri Day celebrations on Monday, assured that Kisumu is safe and secure despite a few insecurity challenges experienced in the recent past.
The Commissioner said that the peaceful environment witnessed in the area are dividends of hard work and collaboration between multi-agency security teams, County government askaris, chiefs, Nyumba Kumi, and community policing committees that have succeeded in bringing down crime in Kisumu.
He hailed police officers for the sting operation that led to the recovery of a G3 rifle, which was one of the firearms that was stolen from Kipasi Patrol Base in Mbita, Homabay County in November.
According to the DCC, police have arrested and prosecuted hardcore criminals who were meting violence to the locals.
During the festive season, Hussein assured, police will heighten surveillance and patrol the public amenities within the CBD as well as the estates to enhance peace and security in the area.
Further, he pleaded with the public to volunteer information to the security agencies to accelerate the eradication of crime in the area.
“The security situation has improved in Kisumu County and I wish to assure everyone planning to visit the area for Christmas celebrations that the region is safe,” he said.
At the same time, he warned drivers against drunk driving. In a zero-tolerance approach to drunk driving, he directed the traffic cops to reintroduce the dreaded alcoblow on the roads to curb the menace and reduce other alcohol-related crimes during the festive season.
“I urge all the drivers and boda bodas to remain careful and sober. We will enforce a crackdown on all drunk motorists and they will face the law,” Hussein stated.
The DCC also lamented the rising number of disco bars, nightclubs, and restaurants in the area.
He, however, urged the owners of these establishments to strictly adhere to the liquor licensing rules and regulations.
“Any proprietor of a bar or a club that will flout any of the liquor industry rules as stated by the County government will be prosecuted and forfeit their business license,” he warned.
