Kapenguria: A multi-agency consultative meeting on children matters in Kapenguria has emphasized the need for a united approach in addressing cases of child neglect, abuse, and exploitation.
According to Kenya News Agency, the Children Court Users Committee (CCUC) meeting was held at the Kapenguria Law Court Boardroom and involved representatives from the Judiciary, National Police Service, Department of Children’s Services, Probation Department, Public Benefit Organizations (PBO), and civil society organizations. The session was moderated by the County Director of Children Services, Philip Wapopa, and chaired by Senior Resident Magistrate, Ms. Kipchumba Kenei, who called for collaboration among partners to make the region a safe place for children, particularly those in need of care and those in conflict with the law.
At the onset of the meeting, the members toured and inspected the progress of the newly established Children’s Court and registry at the Kapenguria Law Court. Those who supported the establishment of the court were commended for their dedication and resources towards enhancing access to justice for children.
The meeting focused on key agenda items, including preparations for the official launch of the Children’s Court, the upcoming Children’s Service Week, and the Sixteen Days of Activism campaign. It concluded with a strong call for members to strengthen collaboration in efforts aimed at enhancing protection and welfare for children within the region.
