Sporting Infrastructural Projects To Boost Tourism, CS Murkomen

Nandi county: Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Interior and National Administration, Kipchumba Murkomen, conducted an extensive tour of Nandi County to inspect the multimillion-shilling infrastructure projects as part of preparations for the 2026 Mashujaa Day celebrations. This year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations are set for Eldoret City and will be co-hosted by the three North Rift neighboring counties of Uasin Gishu, Nandi, and Elgeyo Marakwet with the theme; ‘Finance Sports and Security’.

According to Kenya News Agency, among the projects inspected in Nandi is the State-of-the-Art Kapsabet Stadium as well as the ‘Mother and Child’ Kapsabet Health facility, which is nearing completion. Speaking at the Kapsabet Stadium grounds after inspecting the projects, CS Murkomen noted that once the sports facility is complete, it will enhance sports. He added that with similar projects in the three counties, the proximity will enable the hosting of international events with ease.

Murkomen pointed out that the project is being built in line with Kipchoge Stadium in Eldoret and Kamaring Stadium in Elgeyo Marakwet. He emphasized that the three counties are known for producing record-breaking marathoners. The Kapsabet Stadium is currently at 40 percent construction and is expected to reach 78 percent by Mashujaa Day, indicating good progress.

The CS further revealed that the Kapsabet Stadium will include a 340-bed capacity hostel to accommodate athletes and trainers from different regions. This development is expected to enhance sporting activities, create employment, and increase revenue for the County government. Additionally, hostels are being constructed in Kamaring and Kapsabet Stadiums, aligning with a directive from the President.

Murkomen also noted that the government, through the Ministry of Health and Finance, is working on equipping the new Mother and Child facility at the Kapsabet Level 5 Hospital. This facility was built by the County government in partnership with the National government.

Highlighting various projects in the County, Murkomen mentioned developments in affordable housing, road networks, and modern markets in different parts of Nandi. As part of the Mashujaa Day celebrations, significant road work is planned, including 4.3 kilometers in Kapsabet town, 2 kilometers in Nandi Hills town, 5.6 kilometers in Iten Elgeyo Marakwet, and 10 kilometers in Eldoret City.
