A Sh. 4 million handwashing station has been commissioned at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH), Eldoret to promote hygiene.
The project which was birthed by the partnership between Kenya Water for Health Organisation (KWAHO), Bayer East Africa and MTRH aims to serve up to 22 counties in the Western part of the country.
Speaking during the launch, John Mwangi, a representative from Bayer East Africa stated that the latest statistics showed proper hand washing with soap and water accounts for at least 50 per cent reduction in diarrheal diseases and 16 per cent decrease in respiratory diseases.
He said that the project development is in line with their company’s vision: Health for All and Hunger for None, adding that they had participated in launching a similar project at the Kenyatta National Hospital before the Covid-19 breakout.
Mwangi revealed that the company would maintain and ensure that the machine is running correctly for the next twelve months. He called on other organizations to partner with health institutions for better health care.
“This particular project matches well with the theme Health for All and Hunger for None, we are happy to have walked together with MTRH to see through this project. This is not the first one we are doing, we have participated and partnered with other institutions in government because we do believe that promoting healthy practices is not only a job for the government but also for other organization,” he said.
MTRH appreciated Bayer East Africa for the machine that it says has come at a timely period when the country and the rest of the world continue to fight the Covid-19 Pandemic.
