Mombasa: Safaricom, through the M-Pesa Foundation, has committed Sh32 million towards the renovation of the Tudor Alms House in Mombasa County, as part of the company’s 25th Anniversary celebrations. The Century-old Charitable Institution will undergo restoration works aimed at improving living conditions for the elderly residents while strengthening programmes in education, health, business, and environmental sustainability.
According to Kenya News Agency, Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir expressed gratitude to Safaricom for selecting Mombasa as a beneficiary of the Anniversary projects, highlighting the partnership as a significant endorsement of the County’s Development Agenda. Governor Nassir noted, “I want to thank Safaricom for choosing Mombasa. This year will be remembered for many milestones: ODM at 20 years, Safaricom at 25, M-Pesa at 18, M-Pesa Foundation at 15, and the Alms House at 100.”

udor community beyond serving elderly patients. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between the health and public works departments and the contractor to achieve this goal. Additionally, the Governor revealed the upcoming launch of the Mombasa Care programme, in partnership with Safaricom, which will include a feedback system linking hospitals directly to the Governor’s office to ensure accountability in service delivery. The county’s Food for Education programme will also be expanded to include elderly residents at the Tudor Alms House.
Franklin Okata, representing the M-Pesa Foundation, emphasized the organisation’s commitment to transforming lives and supporting community resilience. “The Sh32 million support for the Tudor Alms House will not only restore dignity to its residents but also strengthen programmes in education, health, business, and the environment,” Okata stated.

Today’s partnership with the M-Pesa Foundation proves that when we come together, we can uplift every corner of our community,” she stated.
Mvita MP, Mohamed Soud Machele, commended the Foundation’s efforts but urged Safaricom to extend support to youth empowerment through sports. He highlighted the potential of local talent in basketball and football and called for improved sports facilities in schools to nurture future champions.

County Government and private entities like Safaricom, noting their role in bringing tangible change to Mombasa residents. The renovation project is expected to improve living conditions for the elderly, create opportunities for skill development, and enhance community engagement at the facility.
