Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) for Interior and National Government Coordination, Winnie Guchu, has allayed any fears of chaos during and after the general elections.
Guchu has noted that security officers deployed to man the elections are currently being trained on how to ensure the country is peaceful as Kenyans cast their votes and during the transition period.
She observed that there are enough officers who will oversee the exercise and quell any incident that may lead to chaos.
Guchu was speaking in Murang’a where she led an exercise of issuing title deeds to a section of residents drawn from Kigumo, Kahuro, Kangema and Murang’a East sub counties.
“Police officers among other security agents mandated to man the forthcoming elections have been trained in all procedures and we are sure that the exercise will be conducted peacefully.
“Areas perceived as hotspots are also marked and enough police will be deployed to ensure no chaos will erupt in case some quarters will not be happy with the results of the elections,” she added.
Guchu requested Kenyans to embrace peace and tolerate political divide saying elections is not a matter of life and death.
“We need to embrace peace and respect each other’s rights. Life will still continue even after the elections,” she emphasized.
Meanwhile, the CAS who was accompanied by Murang’a County Commissioner Karuku Ngumo, underscored the move by the government to issue title deeds saying matters to do with land ownership has been emotive.
“Many people have struggled to get title deeds for their lands. Since Jubilee government took over power in 2013, it has issued more than six million land ownership documents.
“The ministry of lands will continue to process and issue title deeds even in the next administration and this will help people start developing their properties. The title deeds will also ensure the land gains more value,” she added.
In Murang’a more than 1, 000 residents have benefited with title deeds recently issued by the government.
Guchu further said the title deeds are not only given to individuals but also to public institutions.
She confirmed that the ministry of lands is committed to repossess all grabbed public lands warning those who are claiming to have ownership documents of land meant for community purposes to prepare for the repossession.
“Land for schools, hospitals, playgrounds among others which are meant to benefit members of the public are going to get title deeds. All grabbed public lands must revert to the right institutions and serve the intended purposes,” she stated.
