Isiolo: A contingent of security personnel working on a tip-off seized bhang worth Sh6 million during a sting operation in Isiolo County. County Police Commander Moses Mutisya revealed that a Multi-Agency Team, acting on information from members of the public, ambushed a four-wheel personal vehicle at Camp Samaki in Garbatula Sub County. The operation resulted in the recovery of the bhang on Sunday, as police intensified their crackdown on hard drugs and illicit brews in the area.

According to Kenya News Agency, the driver and another man managed to escape into the bushes near the Eldera area, abandoning the vehicle. Upon searching the vehicle, the haul of bhang was discovered. The illicit drugs were reportedly being transported to a neighboring county. In connection with the incident, the owner of the vehicle, residing in Meru Town, was arrested yesterday. The authorities hope that the owner will assist in the investigation and provide information about the driver and the nature of the business conducted wi
th the vehicle.

Mutisya further disclosed that the operation to flush out sellers and users of hard drugs and illicit brews would continue. Recently, a 40-year-old woman was arrested with 40 rolls of bhang, while another was apprehended in Bulapesa village with 20 rolls; both have been charged in court. Additionally, another woman, suspected of injecting young men and women with hard drugs, was arrested, and injection items were recovered from her. Although she managed to escape at the law court before charges were read, authorities have information on her whereabouts and are confident of re-arresting her to face additional charges.

The police commander urged parents to be vigilant, particularly during the long Christmas holiday, and ensure their children are accountable at all times to prevent them from engaging in risky behaviors. On the security front in Isiolo, Mutisya assured that regular police patrols would continue and appealed to chiefs, their assistants, and Nyumba Kumi elders to remain vigilant a
nd report any crime suspects to the police, ensuring a copy of the report is sent to him for swift follow-ups.

Furthermore, Mutisya mentioned that police are actively pursuing leads from a recent rustling incident last weekend, where three people were killed and five others injured. To date, more than 200 out of 250 stolen animals have been recovered, and security personnel are still tracking the remaining herd and the culprits.
