As results trickled after the Tuesday’s general polls security agencies in Kiambu county have intensified surveillance to ensure that the exercise was peaceful.
Kiambu County Commissioner Joshua Nkanatha , flanked by the Kiambu Police Commander Perminus Kioi assured residents that their security would be guaranteed even after the polls.
He all system are set at the Kiambu Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) where the Independence Electoral and Boundary Commission (IEBC) tallying center adding that over 4,300 security officers were deployed across the county.
Nkanatha expressed gratitude to the political leadership for being cooperative during the campaign period and preaching peace calling on the same during and after the voting exercise has ended tomorrow.
He acknowledged that there have been rumors especially in the Kinoo area where resident have been saying they are being threatened not to go to the polls but assured t6he residents that those are just rumours in social media circles but noted they were on high alert as security.
“There are also those who we have heard are going to use the young people on the voting lines to create disturbance diverting the peaceful process by either screaming that the votes are being stolen and for those, we are warning you that you will be dealt with according to the law”, he said
The CC called upon residents to alert security officers or the IEBC in case of any anomalies especially in terms of vote bribery.
At the same time, Nkanatha has said that they are working with the Bar owner’s association and have also agreed that Bars should close up by 6.p.m today to ensure that all are able to participating in the voting exercise
Kiambu County has twelve (12) constituencies, which are Gatundu South, Gatundu North, Juja, Thika Town, Ruiru, Githunguri, Kiambu, Kiambaa, Kikuyu, Kabete, Limuru, and Lari.
These constituencies are further divided into 60 electoral wards. Ruiru Constituency has the highest number of wards with 8 wards, while the rest of the constituencies have five each with the exemption of Kiambu, Gatundu South and Gatundu North which has four each
