Kisumu: Criminals and other gangs who have been terrorizing residents in Kisumu have been put on notice after the new security chief in the lakeside city took office. The new Kisumu County Commissioner, Ramadhan Mabuzo, noted that the security organs have received numerous complaints from residents of degenerating security in the county and have instituted steps to henceforth end the decaying security in Kisumu.
According to Kenya News Agency, Commissioner Mabuzo emphasized that efforts are underway to identify criminals in the region. He highlighted that while boda boda operators have often been labeled as criminals, not all riders are involved in illegal activities. Mabuzo appealed to the locals to partner with the security agencies and volunteer critical information. He issued a strong ultimatum that the security agencies will not allow the over 500,000 residents of Kisumu to be tormented by a small group of gangs.
The commissioner expressed regret and sympathy over the killing of the son of former MP David Were, pledging thorough investigations into the case to bring the culprits to justice and prevent future occurrences. Mabuzo assured that he, along with his committee and the County Security team, is committed to ensuring top security in Kisumu. He warned that criminals have two options: to reform or face consequences, emphasizing that even God does not condone crime and injustice like that experienced by MP David Were’s son at the hands of those seeking quick financial gains through criminal activities.
