Safaricom Mpesa Foundation Seeks Partnership With Trans Nzoia Government

Giant Safaricom Mpesa Foundation has expressed interest in collaborating with the Trans Nzoia County Government to boost the health sector.

This was among the issues which topped the discussion agenda when the Foundation’s Chairperson Mr. Joe Ogutu led a team that paid a courtesy call on Governor Mr. George Natembeya at his office in Kitale on Friday.

Ogutu cited Safaricom Mpesa Foundation’s interest to partner with the devolved unit in the health and education sectors, particularly in maternal, new-born and child health programmes.

Governor Natembeya termed the request a welcome gesture. “We appreciate this good gesture as it will go a long way in assisting the people of Trans Nzoia. It is a great honour when we receive friends who come to our aid,” remarked Natembeya.

The County boss singled out health as one of the challenging sectors that called for closer collaborations between county governments and development partners.

The two parties agreed that the Foundation would allocate adequate funds toward establishment of maternal healthcare centres across the county’s health facilities while the County Government will equip the centres with necessary drugs and equipment.

Kilifi, Lamu, Migori, Kitui are among counties that are currently benefiting from this kind of partnership with Safaricom Mpesa Foundation.

Present during the meeting was the County Secretary Mrs Truphosa Amere, County Partnership and Resource Mobilization Officer Mr. Tom Mshindi and Safaricom representatives.
