Residents Warned Against Illicit Brews in Kimilili

Kimilili: Kimilili Sub-County Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Rose Nyakwera has raised concern over the increasing number of liquor outlets within Kimilili Municipality. Nyakwera noted that security agencies had identified about 28 liquor-selling outlets within the municipality and warned those involved in the processing of illicit brews to stop or face the law.

According to Kenya News Agency, the DCC, who was speaking to KNA in Kimilili town, pointed out that some hotels in the town were allegedly selling drugs and warned that law enforcement officers were vigilant. The owners of these premises would face the law. She also urged motorcycle riders, popularly known as ‘boda bodas,’ to obey traffic rules and observe safety measures to maximize their earnings.

The DCC called on political leaders in the area to refrain from engaging the youth in violent activities and encouraged them to advocate for peace in society. Nyakwera also advised the youth to focus on productive activities and avoid relying on handouts from politicians.

Addressing parenting issues, the DCC expressed concern over the increasing number of street children in Kimilili Town, emphasizing that parents must take responsibility for their children. She stated, “No street bears children but our fathers and mothers. These children have homes. Any child found on the streets will be arrested together with the parents to explain why they are not in school.”
