Uasin Gishu County residents, Monday evening thronged the heart of Eldoret town amid rain showers, as they joined others Kenyans countrywide to celebrate the victory of one of their own son, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party presidential candidate, William Samoei Ruto, after he was declared the President-Elect by the Independent, Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
The crowd which comprised of people drawn from across all the Sub-Counties in the County and the neighbouring counties to Uasin Gishu marched from street to street while singing and chanting both traditional and Swahili gospel songs, to thank God and express happiness over the victory of the son of the soil, who was declared the 5th President of the Republic of Kenya after the August 9th poll.
The multitude of UDA followers who had waited patiently at the centre of the town since early morning seemed unperturbed by the delay by IEBC to announce the presidential results till evening, as they expressed hope in the historic election to produce the 5th country’s first in command since independence.
They preached for peace to prevail in the country as they sang patriotic songs to encourage every Kenyan to shun any act that could plunge the country into violence.
The 2022 presidential race had four candidates, David Waihiga Mwaure of the Agano Party, George Wajackoyah of the Roots party, Raila Odinga of Azimio la Umoja and William Ruto of Kenya Kwanza Coalition.
William Ruto was declared the president elect in 2022 General Elections, after he garnered 7,176,141 valid Votes translating to 50.49 per cent, achieving 25 per cent in 39 counties and out powered his close opponent, Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate, Raila Odinga, who managed a total of 6,942,930 valid votes which was equivalent to 48.85 per cent, achieving 25 per cent in 34 counties.
