Residents Along Sabwani River Advised To Relocate

The department of meteorological services has advised residents living along Sabwani River in Kwanza Sub County in Trans-Nzoia County to take precautionary measures as the annual rainfall season sets in.
County Director for Meteorological Services Mr Edward Amoni, made the call in an interview with the Kenya News Agency (KNA).
Amoni appealed to families residing close to banks of Sabwani River in Namanjalala village to consider relocating to safer grounds in order to avoid fatalities associated with floods.
The officer classified the said river and place among flood prone zones due to the nature of its topography.
“Sabwani River is known for breaking its banks whenever its water level goes up,” noted Amoni as he urged the locals to begin evacuating their properties to safer places before heavy rains begin pounding.
Namanjalala is one of the areas in Trans-Nzoia County that have experienced perennial floods with several reported cases of loss of human lives and properties.
Amoni used the occasion to urge farmers in the county to prepare their farmlands, adding weather forecast reports show the region would begin to experience heavy rains towards the end of this month.
